Visual Assignment: Fat Cat in Famous Art Work

This one caused me the most problems of the visual assignments that I have done so far. Instead of using a super classical version I decided to go more post modern or something and use Pablo Picasso’s Guernica. I decided to use that because I could then turn the title Guernica into Guernicat, which I found amusing. I ended up getting 4 different copies of the image. The first one has the cat looking more at the painting than being a part of it.

This one was a learning experience on how to get the background out of an image so that I just had the cat. It involved using the free lasso tool in GIMP to outline the cat. Then I had to copy the image and post it on a translucent background, save that as .gif and the put that over the background of the painting.

The second picture of Guernicat was just the head of the cat. I was going to put the head on one of the other things but decided it didn’t capture the assignment as well as it could have been. So instead I put the cat head into the the horses(?) mouth.

The third picture I started to use some of the other tools like shear and adjusting the depth/leaning of the cat in the image. It ended up getting stuck in a position that I didn’t like though.

The final image came out better than the others I think. I wasn’t totally thrilled with it, but I liked it more than the other ones I had created. I used the shear and depth tool again but got the cat in a better position so that it looks more like a part of the painting. Even though it isn’t part of the painting because the cat is too normal looking for a Picasso painting.
