Splash of Color

I’ve seen pictures like this all over the internet but I never knew how they were made until now. I picked a photo that was taken at a frisbee tournament that was held last year on the turf fields. It was one of those accidentally awesome pictures. I decided to leave the color in the hat because it was the only thing in focus that had any color and I didn’t think I would be able to do the grass.

I tried to do this one in Pickic but I couldn’t get the color focus right. So again, I followed a tutorial and used GIMP. I created a new layer and put the black and white image over it and then brushed away the black and white parts from the hat. I’m realizing how powerful of a program GIMP is, but I imagine it takes forever to master it without constant tutorials.
