Remix This!

Remix References

First I watched Everything is a Remix (Part 1). this video was very interesting to me because I have never noticed how common remixes are in everyday life. This video showed that in the entertainment industry especially, almost everything is a remix. I never considered knock offs and covers remixes until Kirby Ferguson explained it in his video. In part 1, he focused on the music industry, using Led Zeppelin as his main example. I really liked the part about the man cutting up pieces of paper and piecing them together to create something completely different.

(Also, I loved the little clip of Charlie bit my finger. )

Next, I watched Everything is a Remix (Part 3), this video begins with talking about how we learn from copying. For example, musicians learn from performing covers and some writers may copy an entire novel to understand what it is like to write a book. Ferguson says that the best works come from combining ideas together. For instance, the printing press and the Ford company combined ideas of others to create an even better product and process. The keys to creating are COPY, TRANSFORM, COMBINE. According to Ferguson, this is exactly what Apple did to create the successful  Macintosh computer.

And just for fun, I watched “A fair(y) use tale” I don’t know if it is a great way to teach copyright, but it was extremely entertaining. This must have taken hours to complete, I think it is a great example of remix! Who ever completed this has an awesome imagination!

Examples of REMIX

I thought this was BRILLIANT. This is a remix since it uses both a song and a movie and mashes them together as one. The music for the song has been remixed with video clips from star wars that parallel with the lyrics of the song. I can not believe someone did this, it looks ridiculously time consuming. I am in shock after watching this! Who would have though Star Wars and Call me maybe could be blended so nicely!

This video was mind boggling as well, I wonder how they discovered that these two videos would mix so nicely together. I really liked how they played around with the volume and switched back and forth between Kermit and the musician. If I weren’t watching a video of it and only heard the  audio, I would have assumed it was all one song not a remix.

This is a FANTASTIC mash-up of Twilight and Buffy the Vampire Slayer! The dialogue lined up perfectly, if I were not familiar with these movies I probably wouldn’t have realized it was two different ones. I am floored once again with the time this must have taken and the creativity that had to exist. I wish I was creative enough to make a mash up like this one. The made me laugh due to the irony of the vampire movie and vampire slayer movie being mashed up. It seemed like the vampire was falling in love with the vampire slayer, in the mash-up
