Final Portfolio For Digital Storytelling

Posted by

I am at an end with one of my final courses of the Information and Learning Technology Degree at CU Denver.  This is my final project portfolio for Digital Storytelling (INTE 4340) class with instructor Lori Elliot. Here on my site, you will find links to the assignments I completed during this class.  These highlighted assignments developed a deeper understanding of the core of digital storytelling and accompanied my focal theme eLearning Implementation and Design within the fast paced Business Workplace.

Digital Storytelling Critiques:

The digital storytelling critiques really helped me discover all the different types of digital stories that are out there. My favorite critiques were those that helped me discover what would be valuable in my own digital story created later in the class.

Digital Story Critique Week #5:

In this review, I was able to evaluate the story, economy, and project planning/research that was put into the making of the digital story.  I found this story particularly interesting since my focus was relating to creating engaging eLearning content within a fast paced workplace.  This article focused on the tools, applications, and infrastructures demanded by the modern workplace.

Digital Story Critique Week #13:

I thought that this digital story was interesting in that there was so much information to capsulate into this video, and yet they were able to combine the facts with fast paced music and visuals to keep the audience’s attention. I think the story worked well because the point was to showcase technology and the growth we have made in just a short amount of time.  This story had very strong presentation value with the infographic like visuals to represent the stats and facts presented.

Digital Story Critique- Week 12

I believe this digital story captured the audience well because it was relatable and well designed.  I especially liked how they captured the “voices” of America by recruiting several different ages and backgrounds to complete the interviews.  Essentially, the interviews were condensed to create this piece where you could read through each person’s thoughts more quickly, but it was still well created to suit the audience’s needs.

Digital Story Critique- Week #3

This story really gave a voice to those in need.  When I reviewed this story, It made me think about the content of the art of storytelling.  This digital storytelling project was so moving, that it reaches a big audience and captivates your mind.  It reminded me of how important experience are in the art of storytelling.

Review #1: Impact of eLearning in the Workplace

Defining eLearning:

This team, Oye David, Mazleena Salleh, and Noorminshah Iahad had the idea that the healthcare environment could be vastly improved with the usage of eLearning to more rapidly train healthcare workers providing a more streamlined way of educating, that is also cost effective. They define what eLearning is first. I think this was a vital bullet point for the audience before moving forward to why it is important. Bottom line, eLearning was defined by the team as a unifying term to describe different fields of online learning such as web-based training and technology-delivered instruction. E-Learning is a learning method that facilitates and enhances retention and learning through computers and communication technology.

Reasons for Implementation:

-Employee complete on their own time

-Interactive lessons provide motivation

-Flexible scheduling/can be completed during work hours quickly and effectively

-Employees can be held responsible for their own training if eLearning tools are provided

-Easy monitoring of employee progress/track results of eLearning online

Scholarly Review Week 6:

“It’s amazing that the whole storytelling process just starts with one topic, idea, or thought. Then knowledge and narrative together create an engaging story. Defining the final idea with a beginning, middle, and end thus create an essential flow for the entire script or story. I believe the most important part of this article was the idea of linking movement.”

Daily Creates (DS 106 Community):

Daily creates were a fun way to stay engaged and try something outside of the box.  Each day, DS 106 creates a challenge to complete.

Daily Create– “Make a Still Life with Red Items”

One of my favorite daily creates was called “Make a Still Life With Red Items.”   I had plenty other daily creates I liked as well, but this one was memorable because my son helped me create it.  Together we made this “Still Life” and I told him about Andy Warhol and some of the great still life images and paintings he created like the famous Campbell’s Soup can.  This simple daily create gave me the inspiration to create a lesson plan in my future classroom.  I think students at any grade level would also learn and grow from daily exercises such as daily creates.

Daily Create – “Sidewalk Crack Art”

In this week’s daily create I got the opportunity to turn a sidewalk crack into art. Carla Sonheim’s blog/newsletter/ and online art classes are where this daily create was discovered. The “crack of the month” presented itself as follows, and then you can print the photo of the sidewalk crack off and turn as needed to get your creative juices going.

Daily Create– “Where the Sidewalk Ends {Parody}

When the Summer Ends
There is a time when summer ends,
And just before classes have started,
And there the desk is soft and clean,
And the teacher’s face is shiny and bright,
And there the student takes their seat,
In the fresh crayon and pencil shaving crisp classroom air.
Let us leave this place where the pool has closed,
And the freedom of summer ends,
Past the empty fairgrounds where children play no more,
We shall walk again through the halls that are measured and slow.
Yes we’ll walk the halls again measured and slow,
And we will go where the chalky boards have begun use again,
For the students are the children, and they know,
The classroom is the place, they again need to go.

Networking Interactions:

Below you will find a summary of interactions between classmates and myself in the INTE 4340 digital storytelling class.  I thought these reflections and comments were helpful because they let me know what my peers were thinking about the articles I chose, and their viewpoint about the topics at hand.  I think sharing these thoughts is vital to the overall environment of the class.  It helps me feel connected with the other students as I complete the assignments.
