    The Daily Create: Graduation Edition

    by
Well, I'm officially done with college. I'll be graduating from Mary Washington in a week, but I don't think I'll be saying goodbye to DS106. I hate that I wasn't able to keep up with it this semester. I had so many great ideas for things I wanted to make, but just didn't have the time. So maybe next time. In any case, I've had a blast doing The Daily Create all semester. It's helped me keep in touch with my creative side without demanding too much time. I've done 51 of them since January. Here are the last 7. Daily Create #100 (April 17, 2012)
It’s the 100th Daily Create- Create a photo representing this number.
For the 100th Daily Create, I took a photo of the main gate of UMW. I walked past it and noticed I could make it look like the number 100, which I accomplished by cropping it.

    Daily Create #87 (April 4, 2012)
Record a video documenting something that doesn’t make sense to you.
This one was my suggestion. I documented my mother's stock of peanut butter and jelly. Don't get me wrong, I love peanut butter and jelly, but this is going too far. I don't get it. By the way, I've found another jar of peanut butter and three more jars of jelly in the pantry since recording this.

    Daily Create #53 (March 1, 2012)
Record a video of your hand drawing a picture of your other hand.
I got out my sketchpad from high school and made a Gaga-themed drawing of my hand making the "monster paw" sign. I sped up the video to make it more interesting and set it to the "Monster" instrumental. I used to draw all the time but I hadn't in a long time. It was fun to do again and I think the drawing turned out alright considering.

I got busy and fell a little bit behind on The Daily Create again, but here's what I've been up to when I found the time. Photography is probably my favorite, but I'm glad there's more variety in the assignments now. I'm having a lot of fun with it. Daily Create #45 (February 22, 2012)
    Say your name backwards!
I wanted to be able to reverse what I recorded backwards and have it sounds coherent, so it took quite a bit of trial-and-error. I recorded myself saying "electrovert" backwards (not "Matt" because that wouldn't be very interesting) about 10-15 times before I got it. I wanted the sounds as well as the emphasis to sound right. The first few times certain sounds didn't sound right when I reversed it, such as the 't' sound which was hard to get right, or the emphasis was off (I wanted it to say "electrovert," not "electrovert"), which was even harder to remedy. Eventually I got it and I reversed it and pasted it to the end of the recording in Audacity and it produced a pretty cool effect. Hopefully that wasn't too confusing. :P

    DS106 Radio Gaga 2: Rebellion

    by
My Lady Gaga themed bumper "DS106 Radio Will Set You Free" was probably my favorite thing I made last year, so for my first contribution to the audio unit this year I decided to make a followup. This one uses songs from the album Born This Way, including:
    • "Heavy Metal Lover"
    • "Judas"
    • "Bad Kids"
    • "Americano"
    • "Yoü and I"
I also used this radio tuning sound effect from freesound.org and a quote from this interview.

    The Daily Create: Photography Finale

    by
The last all-photography week of The Daily Create is over so here are the rest of mine. I've actually managed to do every Daily Create since my last recap. Go me! TDC #42 (February 19, 2012)
Take a photo that represents your current job, or a job that you once had.
This was a pretty simple task since I spent the afternoon at my gas station job. I took a bunch of photos and used this one of the front of the hut from inside because I thought it looked neat and it represents what I see most of the time I spend there.

    Eat Outside the Box

    by
Today a prompt I suggested was featured as Daily Create #36, which was pretty cool. My suggestion was:
Take a photo of a food being served or eaten in an unconventional way.
    Here's what I submitted:

    Twinkie Sushi

You got me. It was just an excuse to go buy a box two boxes of Twinkies. The other submissions were really clever and I wanted to share a few of my favorites.

    The Not-Quite-Daily Create

    by
It doesn't seem like it's been a year since I took DS106 at all, but sure enough, one year ago I was doing the Daily Shoot assignment. Because you can take the student out of DS106 but you can't take DS106 out of the student, I've been trying to keep up with DS106 as much as I can this semester while keeping up with my five other classes. I'm really into The Daily Create right now, although I haven't been doing it daily, but as time permits. I thought I would post a little compilation of what I've done so far.

    Information Systems & Royal Ahold

It’s been a busy semester and I haven’t been updating like I had hoped. Now that I’m finishing up some projects I thought they would be worth sharing. They’re not as interesting as my work last semester (I miss DS106 ;_;) but I did work really hard on them, especially this project on Royal Ahold, ...
