    Sitting in a coffee shop reading, and a fashionable lady approaches me after noticing I am reading her favorite book #girlboss.  We got talking about fashion, and she happened to be a stylist blogger and a writer for a fashion magazine, so I handed her my business card to get in contact with me for business.  She viewed my website and looked through my portfolio and liked what she saw. She got in contact with me just 2 days later and wanted me to collaborate with her for a styling project. She thought my style, theme, and work reflected the work she wanted to create and fit well with her design esthetic as well.  We successfully produced the styling editorial, and got a large amount of positive feedback on social media (twitter and instagram) after posting several pictures and behind the scenes posts.  After tagging my name they also promoted my website for business inquiries, and by that my website got greater traffic and lots of different business opportunities came from it.

    The picture above reflects how I want to be perceived on social media. I tend to use Instagram more often because I find for the industry I am in (Fashion) it is important to use visuals, and also it’s a great way to connect with people around the world or even just in your city.

     I took the picture of Gastown to reflect myself and how I wish to engage on social media. Since Gastown has older buildings I thought it would represent vintage, and also it is a very fashion-forward part of Vancouver. I want to build my social media presence by posting pictures of different fashions around the city and write about the fashion presence in Vancouver. The target that it would be presented to would be a young women who have an interest in fashion.

     It also represents the urban living and the busyness of my life. It’s a “happening” place and displays the fashion lifestyle in Vancouver.

    Social Media Strategy: Assignment 1

    by

    As I reflect on my social media presence I have determined that I don’t use social media networks as much as I should.  Having a follower base is essential to get maximum exposure to your work, and I feel like I don’t use the web to network.  I have a media reach of 581.  I got this number from friends of facebook, followers on both instagram, Pinterest and twitter and also email contacts.  I do not have a blog or website yet to display my work, but I hope to do this soon.  My breakdown is the following;

    • Facebook-350 friends
    • Twitter-43 Followers
    • Instagram- 115 followers
    • Email-30 Contacts/Subscribers
    • Pinterest- 43 Followers

     As I come upon graduation and creating my professional portfolio, I want to make an effort to increase my Social Media reach.  A lot of business is now over internet and networking through different social media, so my goal is to reach more people and make connections through Social Media for possible work opportunities.
