What I Can Bear to Remember about Academic Job Video Interviews

What I Can Bear to Remember about Academic Job Video Interviews

    by

It’s that season again: Skype and Zoom links are being clicked through in email inboxes, along with actual phone numbers being dialed, in order to participate in preliminary academic job interviews. Many friends and colleagues I know and love are aching through the process of those interviews (as well as on-campus interviews–go, peeps, go). I too once carefully created a convincing-enough library behind me, selected my shirt and jacket much more carefully than the pants no one could see under my desk, and tested my Wifi connection about a thousand times while shakily breathing over my Mac. I wished this process would be easier and, eventually, I found it to be easier by approaching the interviews differently and with different preparation techniques. In fact, once I figured out and then took up a handful of practices, I felt a greater sense of trust in myself as a scholar and determined …

Should an author kill a main character?

    by
I’m sure those that managed to slog their way through the novels Game of Thrones (or more likely enjoyed the cinematic version in all its bloody, lusty, much more engaging glory) are familiar with the notion of an author killing off one (or countless) main characters. But I am struggling with letting one of my characters … Continue reading Should an author kill a main character?

Saturday morning 10 o’clock: sunny, cloudless sky, 32° – bikini perfect fit. Sisley and Mel are standing in the warm sand looking at the horizon of the blue ocean. Mel: “Oh, what a day, how amazing is this? Look at the guys they are already on the boards, surfing!” Sisley: “Yes, this is unbelievable, look […]

    An Adventure to Remember

    by
**Submission for Elizabeth Finto and Taylor Malone – The three elements we used were writing, design, and photography. **Disclaimer: Dr. Kenneth L. Davis is a real person at Mount Sinai Hospital – we used his name, but not his occupation. The picture is not actually him, and I’m sure he is a wonderful doctor and […]

    FREDERICKSBURG

    by
truly an unfortunate circumstance. This virus is believed to have originated from deep inside the depths of the Hurley Convergence Center at UMW. The secret to its starting is in the books that line the stairwell however… …it is already too late with finals week in full swing, students and administrators are spending numerous hours […]

    FINAL PROJECT: Digital Virus

    by
I would like to first say I thoroughly enjoyed ds106 At first the work seemed super tedious and pointless however overtime I grew to enjoy sitting down and putting in the time needed to create things. Especially with a apocalyptic theme, you could really submerge yourself into your work and make it not even seem […]

One Step Closer to Solving the Evidence Crisis

    by
I wanted to build off the evidence that cypherpunk106 and katie temple had found about Millard Rausch a.k.a Jim Groom.  After exploring Jim Groom’s Social Media account Twitter.  It looks to be that Jim Groom has escaped a mental asylum and is now using Reclaim Hosting as a front to infect those who do not heed his directions. …

    Christina Eliopolis’s Bucket List

    by
That Bucket List Though (2 STARS): Create a bucket list for at least one character from your novel. Pre-war, Christina Eliopolis was an FA-22 Raptor pilot, one of the most advance pieces of tech ever to tickle the clouds. And when fighting zombies, it amounted to little more than buyer’s remorse.  Eliopolis’s main mission went from …

    The “Real” Ending of “California”

    by
I decided to complete the alternative ending assignment for my novel, California, because I finished the book with a need for more. I am going to tell the original ending since most of the class did not choose this book, so there will obviously be spoilers! The Original: They didn’t discuss his long hours. Or the […]
