animated gif.

Our first real assignment (besides purchasing things to get our website up and running) was to create an animated gif using a short scene from a movie that we either love or hate. At first I was at a loss as to what movie to choose- so many options and so little time to pick one. Finally I decided on Domino (which is a great movie if you haven’t seen it yet!) and was at the stage of choosing a scene. As one of my favorite movies, I naturally had many favorite scenes to choose from but after much debate I reached my decision.

Domino is the story of a female bounty hunter who kicks major ass. I finally decided on the scene where Domino first meets Choco and Ed, who will become her bounty hunting family. I felt this was the perfect scene to capture because it embodies who Domino really is.

Now that I had the scene decided, I had to actually make the gif. I’ve worked with gifs before and didn’t think that it would be much of a challenge, but unfortunately it proved to be quite the opposite. I managed to rip the video from the DVD just fine but the software I have to convert video to gif formate wasn’t working properly. After much frustration trying multiple programs, I finally decided to go old school and capture the images myself. Sixty screen capture shots later and lots of cropping and I had the basis for my gif and just needed to put it together, which proved to be the easiest part. Overall I really enjoyed the assignment. I wouldn’t want to do it again anytime soon, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
