I only have two tattoos. My strength tattoo is extremely meaningful to me. I have written stories and poems explaining the significance of what it means, “With the strength on my back, close to my heart, I am okay,” the last words of one of my poems. I could say that I decided to put this tattoo on my body because my grandpa was a walter weight champion boxer, and that I was born with the strength in my fists, or I could say that I grew up without having a dad around, it was just my mom, my sister and I, so because of that I have become a strong, independent woman, but these aren’t the reasons for why I chose this one single, powerful word. I am a victim. I have the strength on my back, close to my heart because I was strong enough to survive my experience. And I want every victim to do the same. Because if I can get through my experience, any girl or woman can.
