Black History Month – Gale “The Kansas Comet” Sayers – BS

Gale Sayers also known as “The Kansas Comet” is a former pro football player in the NFL. Gale was born in my hometown of Wichita, Kansas but was raised in Nebraska. Gale returned to Kansas when he played football for Kansas University. He was a two time All American football player and set a state long jump record while at Kansas University.

Gale is a part of the Pro and College Hall of Fame. He also spent his entire professional football career with the Chicago Bears. Gale played from 1965 to 1972, when a couple of knee injuries caused him to retire. He still lives in Chicago and has done quite a bit for his community, including opening the Gale Sayers Center, which is an after school program for kids 8 to 12.

Gale Sayers was a great football player with many awards over the span of his professional career. He’s a man that has done so many things and helped his community. He is a great role model and a man that I am proud to say is connected with Kansas.
