Shaun of the Dead Minimalist Poster

I have an unhealthy love for Shaun of the Dead. I’ve seen it more times than I can remember and I evangelize it to anyone I come across who hasn’t seen it. Designing a minimalist poster for it isn’t even an assignment for me; it’s just another Friday morning.

The only thing I had trouble with was picking was what, exactly, I wanted to highlight. There are so many cool things I could’ve picked: Shaun’s shirt (“You’ve got red on you”), his name tag, Simon Pegg’s face, the flowers Shaun bought for his mom, Shaun wearing the sideways cap as he DJs, Shaun and Ed holding a cricket bat and a shovel (respectively), etc.

I ended up picking the cricket bat because I dressed up as Shaun last Halloween and spent the most time on replicating his cricket bat. I had the whole outfit totally nailed, right down to holding everyone up before we left my apartment so I could check one last time whether or not Shaun wore a watch (he does), and the cricket bat was like the icing on the cake. I bought a cheap, plain bat on eBay, then painted it with acrylics and red gel ink (so many broken pens) to make it look bloody. Totally worth staining the floor, the sink, and three of my shirts.
