Analyze a movie: Stepbrother

I chose Step brothers for this assignment because Step brothers is one of my favorite movie and I thought I could talk about all the different criteria that represents a movie. I will start off with the writing. I believe the writing was done by Adam McKay and Will Ferrell. I think they did an excellent job representing an old man with a mind of a teenager by the way they talk and their choice of words. The scene when they first share room at night and they are arguing with each other and showing hatred towards each other demonstrates how hard it can with your step brother at first. It is more like an immature teenagers. I think the acting is top notch from both Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. They did an excellent job portraying an immature adult while not over doing it. It was believable that they were stuck in their teens while they are in their 40s instead of adults trying to act like they are teenagers. I also think both of the parents did a good job as well in their acting, especially the dad when his attitude towards them went negative. Some of the sound effects really fit well especially the scene where Will Ferrell looks at the drum room which he is not even suppose to be in. There was a two or three second dungeon sound effect which fits them perfectly because they are still enjoying the things they did when they were young and immature. Also the scene where Derrick’s, Will Ferrell’s younger brother, family was first introduced described the audience what kind of family they were.

This film is a comedy and some of the tropes I found was “Awkward Father Son Bonding Activity”. The family is having their first dinner together as a family and The dad has an awkward dinner time with his sons, especially Will Ferrell who cannot even call his name or give him a hug.

Dinner Scene

The second trope I chose is the Angrish. It is when the characters are really pissed off that they can’t even speak proper language. This scene is less than that, they are able to speak english but it is still very angry scene that gives audience a laughter. This is one of my favorite scene in this movie.
