Well I felt pretty inspired by this project, been working on it practically non-stop all day. For my movie trailer mash-up I have focused on yet more works from the brilliant director Hayao Miyaki. From my recent post of Howl’s Moving Castle you may be noticing just how big a deal Miyazaki is to anime fans. Unfortunately though one of his most recent films, Ponyo, was received rather poorly by most of his hardcore fans; mainly do to its overly kiddy themes and lack of actual dilemmas of course. I mean I sat through that whole movie and when I got to the end everyone was telling Sousuke that he was about to face the hardest challenge of his life. And what was this challenge you might be wondering? A freaking yes or no question! What were they dumbing life problems down for him just cause he’s a kid? Chihiro from the amazing movie spirited away, another Miyazaki classic, was just a kid and she faced problems so mentally scarring I don’t think she’ll ever be okay!
So in short I decided to take one of Miyazaki’s less awesome movies and dub it over with the US trailer of one of his most awesome and violent movies, Princess Mononoke. Which I like to call Princess Pononoke, enjoy:
Now I wanted the announcer’s dialogue to match the scenes as much as possible so instead of just simply dubbing over an existing trailer, I mixed and matched scenes from 2 different Ponyo trailers to make it as hilariously awesome as possible. I was a bit confused on what to do when I got to the part when the announcer said the movie title, since he would say Princess Mononoke and I wanted it to look like it was for Ponyo. But after looking at some people who completed the assignment I decided to cut out that dialouge and input music from the Princess Mononoke soundtrack for the closing. In all I cut and spliced 19 separate clips together so I’m pretty proud of myself for getting this done in a day considering my previous works took me much longer and had much fewer to work with.
