Look, Listen, Analyze.. My Best Friend’s Girl Styleee

I reviewed the trailer for My Best Friend’s Girl three times:

Step One: “Before watching the first time, slide the volume on the clip (or on your computer) all the way down.” I watched the clip on mute. Man oh man was this trailer entertaining without the volume.  The first scene is of a couple and it’s panned back and forth between. This accounts for showing their different expressions, very adapt way of showing both the full conversation and the emotions/reactions of each character. The next scene shows the relationship of what looks like either two friends or two brothers. The quality of their relationship it shown through the characters body language. The next series of scenes switches views… A LOT and explains what Tank does for a living; showing both when the guys need him and then his destruction on these “dates.” It’s hilarious to watch on mute.. best part in my opinion. In this part of the trailer the camera angles were all different and changed constantly. The trailer cuts from scene to scene to scene in sequence in the middle. This trailer shows so much that I probably would’ve missed out on if the volume was on. This was my favorite way to review the movie.

Step Two: “Now turn the volume up, but play it without looking at the screen; just tune into the audio.” First off, the background music and sounds effects for this trailer are outstanding! The sounds move the trailer along and help to tell the story. The background music helps to tell the mood of the movie to its entirety. Also, the sound effects at the most expected times are right on target. The audio also builds up the intensity of what’s to come.

Step Three: I was finally able to enjoy the trailer to its entirety. I love how both the visual and audio elements come together so amazingly. The camera angles and tricks really make the trailer come together.

This assignment was awesome and a lot of fun. I enjoyed the ability to appreciate both good audio and visual elements.
