The Final Post

My final summary, then I’m heading home for break!

So, here is my final story. I tried my best to make a short story that implemented what I do with EMS and make it fun. Sure, I didn’t entirely go into someone getting hurt, or me fixing them, but I showed what would happen and how we would respond. I took a look into what a 911 call would sound like, how we would be dispatched, what units would be necessary for the situation. I had fun creating it because I love spreading the word and knowledge of what we do. Most people don’t understand everything we do, but when shit hits the fan, you can be sure we’ll be there.

Quiz Time!!! What is storytelling? Well let’s travel back to my post from Week 3. Did my idea of storytelling change over the course of 13 weeks? Not a bit. I think I hit the nail on the head when I told you This.Is.Storytelling. So check out the post, but know that storytelling is what you make it. So you make it, that’s art. After that, you need to share it with the world. When more people read it, or hear it, or watch it and start talking about it…congrats, You.Are.A.Storyteller.

When you’re ready to step up to the plate and start your own digital storytelling journey, know that I’m here to help. And if you don’t know where or how to get started, I have a couple of tutorials that are easy to re-create with your own work so that you can get off on the right foot. Then, once you’re ready to go out and do it on your own, you can check out these assignments. Basic assignments that will get you a couple extra stars in your Design and audio weeks. And if you’re an above average storyteller, check the repository and hit up some 5-star assignments to make DS106 proud.

And if that isn’t good enough for you, check out my Best Works. If you think you can do better, show us. This isn’t a game, but my challenge to you will hopefully encourage you to do better and create something above and beyond what I call my “best”. These assignments are my best TDC, Design, Audio, Video, and Remix. So there you have it, something to top for almost every section of DS106 that you will come across. I tried my hardest, now let’s see what YOU’RE made of! (put a link in my comments if you want me to check it out!)

And my last bit of advice, start early. Start early on the assignments and start early asking for help. The professors are more than helpful and have lightning fast responses compared to all those other dull professors you’ve had. Don’t fall behind, because as I’m finding out, from week one until week sixteen, it all builds off what you learn. And if you learn a lot, and understand what you’re doing, the assignments will be a lot easier and you won’t stay up all night trying to get your URL in by the deadline. Plus, start early on your summary. A good summary should take 45 mins – 1 hour to type up. That way you can explain what you did and why you did it. Take my advice and you will prevent hacking away at DS106 for hours and hours on Sunday and wishing you weren’t so stressed.

Well, this is it for the stories of my Fall 2012 DS106 career. I will take the skills I have learned, the tools I have been given, and continue on with my digital creation. Good luck to all future students, and happy holidays to all!
