This was an interesting first week for DS106.  A lot of different things happened and there were many new experiences that I… haven’t experienced…

When looking at the first few media videos on art, creativity, “disruptive wonder,” and the list of class rules, many things came to mind.  The video on art got me thinking about art, obviously, but Robert Hughes, despite his seemingly negative view of art, got at the point that art can be anything created.  I think this is a significant point because I am not a very artistic individual.  Having said that, I am looking forward to these—I assume—one of a kind assignments in DS106, and drawing from past experiences to create whatever I would like.  The second video on creativity was also interesting.  I disagreed with his idea that the Internet stifles creativity, and going along with his idea that it takes large groups of people and connection to incubate ideas, the Internet should be the ultimate place for ideas to occur because of the limitless connection and incredibly large quantities of people using it.  Of course, this requires knowing where to look, which would also be very challenging.  The Ted-talk video was interesting as well.  Don’t have much to say about it but it was interesting seeing the creative things they came up with in relation to such small, obscure memories.

Daily Creates were cool.  Didn’t take too long but it was kind of tough trying to come up with something interesting.  I ended up taking several shots to get a finished product but it was a cool, interesting assignment to make some creativity.

As I said before, kind of nervous about all the creativity aspects of assignments, but at the same time I’m excited for them as well.  I didn’t think anything was hard this week particularly; just lots of signing up for things and figuring out how to do things like upload videos to YouTube.  The thing that is going to be the biggest challenge for me this semester I think will be the use/creation of my own website and blog.  It has taken a bit of time for me to figure it all out because I’ve never done anything like it before.  If I keep using it I’ll figure it out soon enough.  I think it will be a useful experience even if I don’t use it again.
