Weekly Summary 3

So many links this week!  First, here’s what I think about the process of storytelling–difficult concept to wrap your head around, but I tried.  It is a difficult process to understand, as I have been discussing the same topic in another class of mine for a few weeks.  It relates to my studies immensely, being an English major, the topic comes up often.  Changing the process to digital, however, changes the topic slightly, but only to the point where the story does not require words and can be told in picture, video, sound clips, etc.

The Arc analysis of storytelling was the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen in the world.  I could not stand it and wish I never saw the damn thing. I looked at the Hobbit, and although the graph does look nice, there is no point of analyzing a story like this.

The inspire stories were actually really cool.  I found that a lot of them were interesting and really cool.  Wish I had thought of them myself.  I looked at the stories on the piano duel from the inspire page, which was really cool and creative.  Then there was the 5 frame story about the eggs which was awesome.  No real insight on what digital storytelling is, but they gave me some good ideas.

Did three daily creates this week.  The first one was describing sky without using a word for color.  Which I suppose cotton candy could be called a color…  Then there was one on math in motion as follows.

And then there was the one of a picture of something broken.

The process of doing daily creates is simple enough.  They aren’t challenging unless I can’t think of something.  Or just don’t want to do them right away, which happens often

And then there was the tell a story in 5 frames activity.  That was a lot tougher.  I had some ideas for funny things, but they required me getting people to do things, so I just ended up doing something very serious and not funny in any way.  I think that the process was, however, effective in telling a story.  I wish it wasn’t as serious honestly but there’s not much I can do about it now.  It’s interesting because the things are open for interpretation, much like a book.

The comments were very helpful in making the blog look better, although I still haven’t figured out how to do some of the things suggested, but I want to.  It also opened up paths to learning for everyone, because one of the comments was asking about how to add this theme or that and it just ended up being that I found it on google, which I explained.  It really is a give/take kind of thing.  Not sure anything in anyone’s blog was really influential yet, but it was cool seeing people get really into the making of gifs.  People were really going all out on the things!  I didn’t get to see much of other people’s work aside from the gifs so far but they were all different.  It was intersting seeing other people’s gifs and daily creates, seeing which ones people choose to do and whatnot.  I can’t wait to see more of them in the weeks to come!

At this point, I’m just trying to figure out how to get rid of the carousel feature entirely on my homepage because it is kind of annoying.  I’d also like to get rid of the sponsors thing because it is a distraction… there’s no reason for it but it does not appear on the widgets option…  I’ll probably just end up changing the theme again if I don’t figure it out soon.
