Final Summary

When I first look back at my week three summary I got a real kick out of it! I had totally forgot about my 5 picture story and so that made me laugh. But I also think I had a pretty good handle on what storytelling meant in a digital media platform. I think some of the ideas that I highlighted still pertain to what carried me through the rest of ds106! I still think it’s kinda eerie how on point Kurt Vonnegut was with his storytelling arch.
This was a really exciting opportunity in that I really pushed myself in a creative manner. I think this idea really took the form of a online narrative. I took a completely ficticious character and really got to have fun with who he would be if he did exists. I think by not only personifying a Twinkie (which hostess had done already) and then suiting him to exists as a normal person in an average man’s life was really fun. My focus and inspiration for most of these posts were to sort of invision Twinkie as a child-star who sort of fell from glory.
I started by making Twinkie a twitter account to sort of build a foundation for who he is. Here I started to create my idea of Twinkie by creating a few tweets I thought he might say, to really build my character, Twinkie. It was really fun too in that I got to decide who he would follow and build his twitter account completely out of nothing! Lots of creative room.
Next I made Twinkie a linkedin account. This was a platform where I sort of looked at my character, Twinkie, and approached him from a professional light. I did some research on Hostess as a company and thats where I drew most of his work history from.
I then had to make Twinkie a business card. This was a fun quick project and I wanted to imagin Twinkie giving these out at interviews or friends/family to try to appear as if he hadn’t lost his whole lives direction when Hostess went out of business.

The last part of my construction of Twinkie was mapping his commute. I thought this was a nice way to end hsi narrative in that we see Twinkie get a job and what his commute is going to look like!

This whole process of creating a story and executing was actully pretty easy. I think the only reason that it came to me so easily was that I think the majority of our assignments thus far really built me up to succeed in this assignment.
When it comes to my participation in ds106 I am sort of torn. I think that through my daily creates and tutorials that I was able to participate with the class really well. I think that I also took an active role with my participation when it came to using twitter during my group project, also with keeping up with checking others blogs to comment and see the work they were prodcing too. But I know that I was unable to attend any of the live streamings of the DS106 show, this was mostly due to 3 different work schedules conflicting. But that being said I think I took an active role as best I could using other platforms of communication. At one point my radio show group and I had video chats twice a week!
For my pay it forward assignment I chose to do something that I had really had fun with that was the 1 story 4 icons project. I thought that I would try to get my message across using as little words as possible. I think that the icons I chose really expresses what it takes to succeed in DS106!
