Responce to Professor Oliver

Although Prof. Oliver may seem to sound a bit radical in this video, I must say I agree with his overall view on learning. I feel the proper guidance on a professor, students can not only learn from the higher power (Professors) but on their own as well. Professor Oliver mentioned that learning had to come from the heart. This I find to be true.

A person has to want to learn, they have to have the desire to expand their knowledge. A professor can only teach us so much, but when we’re on our own, its up to us to figure out ways to learn. The DS106 community is a great example of this. Students can learn not only from the Professor that teaches the class, but can ask questions and receive answers from fellow students and members that are part of this learning process as well.

However we do need Professors as well. We need them to help guide us, and steer us in the right direction. They can’t be around us all the time as their time is limited to us. However with a community like DS106, we have friends that are willing to help pass their knowledge down to us as well. But it does require the heart, desire and the passion to want to learn.
