After reading Roger Ebert’s article titled “How to read a movie,” I have learned some new ideas about how movies are edited to emphasize specific emotions and add overall tension to a scene. In particular, the part that he discussed that stood out to me the most was about where the actor is placed in a scene. “In simplistic terms: Right is more positive, left more negative.” This applies to the emotions such as happy or mad, but it can also be used to represent other more figurative ideas such as being in the future or the past, depending on…

I used IMovie for the first time in what feels like eternity. I’ve never really used it much before since like elementary school-ish. But it was pretty easy to get a hang of, and is a pretty solid interface for piecing videos together for free, and it’s also very easy to edit and add stills. …

    Another Scene Edited

    by
Though I’d love to say that I’m walking away from this week feeling accomplished, I wouldn’t be telling the complete truth. While I do feel this way, I’m also extremely relieved that it’s over. Video assignments were the thing that stressed me out the most in the class as video

    Attention to Detail

    by
As someone who doesn’t watch much television and has difficulty remembering scenes from films, I wasn’t sure where I wanted to take this assignment. I debated taking a look at the beautiful bits of cinematography within the new Spider-Man film, though I knew I would struggle to find clips for

Another peer teaching week! This week we got to do another round of peer teaching. This is our third round of doing this. We have really gotten used to it now and it is fun thing to do throughout the course of this class. This week we shared what we were working on for our Big Project. Another great week!

    by
Wow, this week was busy as usual, but I learned a lot about video editing! This week’s daily creates are linked below. My favorite assignment this week was this one! At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about it, but it was fun to figure out how to edit the video and put everything together. Searching online was helpful as always, but once I had the general idea of how to access the tools on the program, it went together smoothly. This week, the second runner-up was the organ recordings that I made, and I hope that that counts…

    Video Essay

I decided to do my video essay on a scene from “The Grinch,” a live-action movie. I picked a scene from this movie because it has always been one of my favorite movies, and it the editing, costume, set, different designs, colors, etc., have always been so interesting to me. I narrated my video using… Continue reading Video Essay
