    Draw More

    by
I watched Graham Shaw's Ted Talk and was really impressed by the way he was able to take something that seems so complicated to people and make it super simple.I know many people think they can't draw but they can. Everyone can, it doesn't mean it's perfect, or going to be placed in a museum but you can do it. I learned a long time ago that I love to draw, paint, sculpt, and make art. Shaw does a really good job of letting people know this is something that anyone can do! One takeaway I had from

    CARP in Infographics

    by
For week three of 6710 we are discussing CARP, four basic principles of design. When searching for an infographic that illustrates good use of CARP I went to my Pinterest account and just scanned through all of my pins looking for one that stood out to me. I thought this would be a good test of the design of the infographic because sometimes it's hard to put into words why you are attracted to one design over the other. Sometimes I find that I am scrolling and scrolling and for some reason I

    Three weeks of summer.

    by
The spring semester wrapped up about a week ago and I am enjoying my three weeks of summer vacation. In an attempt to finish grad school early I am diving in and taking two classes this summer and my vacation from school is quickly winding down and slipping away. This past semester at school was interesting. I took a class, 5100 Instructional Design and spent the first few weeks mostly confused but as the semester progressed it all started to become clear and I started thinking, Where has this

    Fail Forward

    by
Productive failure is already a trend in connected, collaborative, learning.  Research is mixed regarding learner center pedagogy and more controlled approaches. What we know for sure is we will win some and lose some in life.  Learning to fail forward is a win.  Fear of failure is a common barrier to success.  How many of us were “taught” how to fail?  The fact that we fail sometimes seems to be a secret no one wants to talk about.  I am a focus, take action and get it done kind of girl.  That

    Of Koi and CARP

    by
One of the most common and familiar designs in traditional tattooing is the Japanese koi. He appears in a variety of ways on the human body, following the natural lines and patterns of the wearer’s skin, musculature and bone structure. He symbolizes overcoming challenge and adversity and represents a personal struggle. Koi placement, coloring, orientation and elemental […]

    Leading a Discussion: Online Cheating

    by
Course INTE 5250: Strategies for Online and Blended LearningFor this course we were given the assignment of leading an online discussion. I was partnered with Erin Dwyer, a high school math teacher, and fellow student in the ILT program and we were given the topic online cheating. Our challenge was to: meet up and discuss how to deliver our discussion, decide what question(s) to ask our peers, deploy our discussion post at the appropriate time, and then proceed with the discussion on our own

    Everyday CARP-ing

    by
CARP in design work is essential to use to ensure that the product maxes it’s purpose for the audience. I could have copped out and said that CARP just makes things “great”, but I went with the more professional response.

Are we building the world we want?

    by
I love the question Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg is asking in his Building Global Community manifesto today. "Are we building the world we all want?" Will we focus on expansion and inclusion or react with fear and contract and isolate? We certainly see the latter as fear seems to have gripped some driving them to create walls of isolation. Mark’s post today imagines a world where people are given the power to share and make the world more open and connected. Education disrupts fear. In my

    Reflections on the 4th semester

    by
I began my fourth semester of the ILT Master's program at UC Denver about two weeks ago. This semester means I have finally begun the second half of this program and am on my way to crossing the finish line. I thought it would be a good idea to do a little reflection on what I've accomplished so far and how I feel about the program and being a grad student. I chose the picture of the light coming through the trees because it really represents how I feel right now. I finally see the light! I

How should companies respond to the Muslim Ban?

    by
As concern about the impact of the latest executive order banning people from 7 Muslim countries from entering the U.S. grows, how should companies lead on this divisive issue? We can trust the research that integrity is of central importance to effective leadership.  Appearing incongruent will undermine your mission.Congruency MattersFacebook CEO Mark Zukerberg said “The United States is a nation of immigrants, and we should be proud of that……..I’m concerned about the impact of the recent

Reflecting on your legacy, President Obama

    by
As I sit here, tired, drinking a Red Bull so I can finish this change proposal for the last class, in the last semester, of my Masters program all I can say is thank you Mr. President. It was President Obama who urged us back in 2009 to go back to school.  Acquire some 21st century skills he said, because the economy would never go back to the kind of economy it was before the recession/depression. Image Wikimedia CommonsHe was right. In 2010 I started this journey with a GED. It took leadership

Final Reflection for Research in Learning Design and Technology

    by
5 at 8:29amThis course was interesting because truth be told, I actually thought it was going to be easy. As a Humanities major I did quite a bit of writing; essays, research papers, and I even wrote a final thesis for my degree. I actually enjoyed all of that writing! This course was not what I anticipated however, it was much more difficult. I assumed that I would thrive in this environment but it was more challenging for me to think critically than I assumed it would be. Maybe it was just

    Trayvon and Trump

    by
The outrage bubbled up in me like a volcano.  Hot like lava. At 10:30 pm I turned off the TV as early results showed him in the lead.  Surely this will turn in the night and I will wake up to some hope the idea of America could be real.  My eight-year-old grand daughter looked at me with worried eyes.  “It’s going to be alright Le Le, these are just early results he’s not going to win.”  Then she went home and I went to bed.But joy didn’t come in the morning.  The darkness grew in the night.  He
