Beneath – Incorporating Sound

Perhaps the most noticeable change in this update to Beneath is the incorporation of sounds effects. Doors now creak when opened, bang when shut, and rattle if they are locked. Furniture makes a sliding sound when it is moved. And picking up items make two different “pickup” sounds, depending on whether the item is normal or important. I’m pretty happy with the effect, it seems to do a lot to liven up the world.

Another change is the inventory bar on the right; important items are displayed there when picked up. This, along with the “pickup” sound effect, is intended to make it much more obvious to the player when they find something significant.

For my next update, I am going to start incorporating narrative and gameplay into the second room (you’ve found it, right?). You’ll have to wait and see what these will be, but the music change that’s been present for the past few weeks is a hint.
