End of Boot Camp. I made it!

I made it through Boot Camp. I was able to take this week head-on and I ended up having a great time. Even though the work load was exponentially more than the first week, I made it through the muddy obstacle course.

This week I completed 3 Daily Creates. The first was a picture of the “great outdoors.”

This is a photo taken from my back porch. When I saw that the Daily Create was to capture the great outdoors, I knew right where to go. I love having this view!

The second Daily Create I chose to complete this week was a drawing of a place I want to visit. Here is that drawing:

pittsburghincline

I drew a picture of the incline in Pittsburgh. The incline is a major touristic attraction for the city. It climbs up the side of Mount Washington and once you reach the top, you have a tremendous view of the city. The picture I drew is how the incline appears when you are traveling North into the city. To me the incline represents a point of arrival in trips to my hometown. It is also where I proposed to my wife. Here is how it looks when a terrible artist isn’t depicting it..

The third Daily Create I completed for the week was a picture of a spinning object. I took this in a different direction.

spinningweb

This is a “spinning” spider web under my deck that is highlighted by rain drops. The web is just too beautiful for me to spray with a hose.

Apart from my three daily creates this week I had to create a gif. Gifs are animated image files that can be uploaded to most image-hosting websites. Here is my very first .gif:

If you would like to see my thoughts on the Flash Gordon gif, check out my blog post:

I also did some research on Creative Commons which is an exceptionally cool movement to aid artists in protecting their work and also to streamline collaboration among artists.  I blogged all about it earlier this week:

Finally, this week was also a chance for 106ers to customize their blog sites. Customization of a WordPress site involves activating different themes and plugins that can make your site either more beautiful or more user-friendly. After a brief hiccup with an outdated theme (which my professor showed me how to fix-video below) I was able to get back up and running with an even better theme that displays my love of writing and creating. I also created my own logo for the site.

The only other thing I am trying to figure out at the moment is how to index certain posts into certain pages. For example, I want to be able to put this post into my Weekly Summaries menu tab. I am busy searching for a cure for my conundrum.

At the end of DS106 Boot Camp I find myself ready for exciting new challenges. I know its not going to be a breeze but I am ready to storm the beaches of digital storytelling. I am giving everything I possibly can to this course because I know it will be extremely rewarding and beneficial in the end.
