The World Lives for the Weekend

Generalities

Man, I am feeling feisty today. That is your warning that what you are about to read is thickly laid with sarcasm, and cursing.

Anyways, week three is coming to an end already. These days are flying by. It’s nice how quickly I have become comfortable with all of these online gadgets now. Blogging seems almost second nature already. I dig it. There are still things that I don’t quite have a handle on yet–not really sure how the whole twitter thing works (so that I can tweet automatically every time I post a new blog). Those directions were a bit unclear to me. So, feel free to help a sista out.

I continued to play around with my theme this week–I still don’t think I have found one that I am entirely satisfied with. You all will probably continue to see that changing. Until you don’t, and then you will know I am happy. But until then, my indecisiveness will be very evident.

Storytelling 101, yo.

This week we were given the task of explaining what exactly storytelling is. This was a pretty neat assignment. Made me think about what storytelling means to me–something that I never really gave much thought to before. Anyways, you can read more about how I’m not one of those naturally gifted assholes that can tell an awesome story without having practiced (click the link above).

I only say ‘asshole’ because I am envious.

Vonnegut

This video was short and sweet and to the point–my favorite kind of videos. The audience seemed to laugh a lot at Vonnegut, but I didn’t really understand why, sometimes. Maybe it isn’t my sense of humor? I don’t know. Whatever, the dude talked about the shape of a story, and the many shapes that stories can take on. On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being mesmerizingly interesting, and 1 being boring as fack) I’d give it a 7. I have never really looked at stories this way before. I was hoping that he was going to show us some ground-breaking universal way of looking at a story, so that I could then try to prove it wrong; sometimes, I just want to play the devil’s advocate. But, I liked the video. He was a smart guy, and gave me a new perspective, which is always a good thing. You guys can read about how I applied his theory to one of my favorite novels, Catcher in the Rye.

My Creative Genius

I did four daily creates this week. I tend to choose the picture ones–they are the most abundant, and I love taking pictures. I have been using my iPhone to do this.

Numero Uno:

whatmakesmeangry

Something that makes me angry. This sign. I understand why it is here, but it angers me nonetheless. Seriously, UMW students live in houses off of campus too (thank the wee baby Seamus because I love my cat). Can’t we all just get along?

Dos:

Sidewalk

A sidewalk scene. This isn’t very much of a “scene,” not much is going on here, but this sidewalk, this particular little sidewalk is the one leading to my house. I love my house. Just look how cute it is! It had to happen. Sidewalk scenes are great though. One of my favorite activities is sitting on the many benches around Mary Wash, people watching. Yes, I judge you all very hard. Hahah, keeding.

Tres:

FB

Draw a picture of something you miss. I switched this daily create up. This is a drawing of something that I DON’T miss. I have been facebook free for about 3ish months (maybe more, I’m not really counting) now. It is great. Yeah, I feel out of the loop sometimes, but I kind of like that. I guess it goes with my introverted nature though. Plus, my friends tell me the really important things, and I don’t waste hours in a day procraturbating. IT IS GRRRREAT.

Finalmente, quatro:

Up Close and Personal

My picture of something up close. Try to guess what it is. You won’t. I like the way it turned out though. Super artsy looking. My phone is good at doing that with pict-chars.

Five Photo Story

This assignment was awesome. I think my story came out really cool. I was really happy with it anyways. That’s one thing that I have really learned to embrace in this class–going with my initial instincts. That’s how I have been choosing what to write about, make a gif of, etc. And I gotta say, it’s a nice way to do things. I should use it to help me in my decision making skills in the real world. It definitely helps fuel my creativity too. Anyways, if you want to check out my five photo story, do so here. Or you can look at the same pictures in my Flickr photo stream.

Because I liked the way this assignment turned out, this was also the same post I tried to get five comments on. I did not succeed. I got 3/5. I’m not heartbroken about it–that’s more comments than I had on anything previous to this week (besides the spam during my first week  -___- ). I tried getting five comments on it by tweeting about it. But that’s all I really did I guess. I could have tried harder. And I tweeted about it at the beginning of the week too when not everyone was on the reader yet. OH WELL.

Participation

I definitely met, and probably exceeded the expectations for this, with the help of my classmates, of course. I had some really good commentry going on between me and the ‘mates, or some of them–some people didn’t really reply even though I tried to ask questions. I guess the night is still young. I like hearing other peoples’ opinions, and getting their input on whether they think my shit looks cool or not. I would love some feedback on the user-friendliness of the themes that I try out too. I thrive on constructive criticism.

Wrap it Up

Can’t wait for everything that is to come in this class. I get re-excited for this class every week because I know there is going to be new things that I have to do, new obstacles to overcome in the land of technology. But, I’m craving some chicken nuggets now, so I’m gunna go get me some. Yeahhhh buddddy.
