After reading Gardner Campbell’s “Personal Cyberinfrastructure,” I must admit I feel duped.  Coming into college almost none of what I did academically was online, and having discussion boards, blogs and various other web tools required for classes seemed like a revolutionary new way to use the internet for school.  In fact it was in my first college class, Campbell’s “Rock, Soul, Progressive” freshman seminar, that I first learned about the concept of blogging.  Although I rarely remembered to write each week, it still seemed like a cool way to do my homework.  After reading the article, however, it appears that what I’ve been doing for the last 4 years is hardly revolutionary.  The online components that numerous professors have assigned are all just part of Campbell’s “digital facelifts,” the repackaging of technology we already possess.  My impression thus far is that this class is all about changing this cycle, and while I’ve been lost for the majority of it thus far, the prospects that lay before me do seem pretty damn cool.
