Upon further analysis of The Pursuit of Happyness, I found:
- When the movie came out in theaters, the mayor of Chattanooga, Tennessee held a showing for all the homeless people in the area to help inspire and encourage them (Wikipedia).
- The movie is based on a true story, though some parts are exaggerated/did not truly take place (Wikipedia).
- The role of the son was played by Will Smith’s biological son, Jaden (Wikipedia)
This movie would definitely be charactered and fall under the drama genre. The Pursuit of Happyness is a powerful film, full of emotion, drama, uncertainty, doubt, hope and perseverance. All of these words describe a drama film. Will Smith’s character Chris Gardner loses everything: his home, savings, income, car. The only thing he has left is his son and the clothes on their back. But “Chris” is able to push through all that he lacks and excel in this internship, which lands him the job he so desperately needs. No one ever knows all that he lacks. But throughout the film, there is a feeling of uncertainty, will Chris be able to keep his son safe? Will he get the job? Where will he go?
Here is a little movie clip I put together. I used these two clips (here and here), downloaded them with KeepVid and used MPEG Streamclip to trim them up. I ended up with three mini clips because I wanted to remove some rambling in the Interview piece that wasn’t necessarily important for this clip I put together. But then when I went to put them all together, I just couldn’t get them to go in the correct sequence.
I sent an SOS out on twitter and CogDog responded with some suggestions, but nothing worked.MPEG Streamclip was just being a bully and wouldn’t let me do my job. So CogDog suggested using iMovie to put it all together and that’s what I did. It was easy peasy, so once it was put together, I just uploaded it to Youtube. Let me know what you think!
Well it looks like the words and lips aren’t matching up:( I just can’t win with this assignment… boo:( Any tips on how to solve that problem?
I chose the interview clip and the calling clip to demonstrate the perseverance and tenacity that “Chris” has. He goes into this interview not realizing that he will not get paid, he takes the internship knowing how competitive it is and he excels! Chris gives everything he has in that interview. As in any movie labeled as a “drama” there is always dramatic aspects. So Chris shows up to the interview after being arrested, covered in paint. This is not a good sign, will he be able to get the internship or not? There are all these questions about whether or not Chris will be able to succeed. I think these two clips show that Chris has what it takes to be a top notch individual and to succeed in his job, because he is dedicated.
