Visual Assignment: Newspaper Blackout Poetry

I loved this assignment.

The reason I liked this assignment is because it really made me think in a different way than I usually would (sort of bottom-up processing vs top-down).  It also made me notice interesting words in the newspaper.  I don’t really read the newspaper very often, as it doesn’t come to our house and
the internet is so much more accessible.  It kind of makes me think of subliminal messages.  This was very satisfying, and I would do this over and over again.

“Share a chance to break the grips”

I think this statement could mean different things, and I kind of like the mystery it has of only being 7 syllables long. I like the words “share,” “break,” and I really like “grips.”  I think it made me think of sticking to the man or something.  I would say that that is the inspiration.

This was very simple to make.  Step 1: find the newspaper.  Not too difficult.  Step 2: find a pen. Easy. Step 3,4,5: Read, find words that were interesting, get an idea.  Step 6: Scribble out unnecessary words and spaces.  Finally: take a photo and upload it to my computer.
