This podcast focused a lot on exactly what the title says, conventions. A couple of interesting stories were told by people that had gone to a couple different conventions. The sounds throughout the podcast, like normal, gave you a sense of actually being there. You could here the chatter of people around you but couldn’t really make out what was being said.
The first story had great music that seemed to sneak in every once in a while to help drive the story. It seemed kind of funny as he told his story and described the others at the Dark Shadows convention, he began to realize he was just like them. You could definitely tell he could sense a belonging.
The second story was about a dishwasher named Dishwasher Pete that went to the National Restaurant Association convention. The story was quite odd to me though because he seemed to enjoy being a dishwasher way too much. At one point, he talked about some company that all dishwasher’s know about. When in reality, most people that wash dishes for a living hate their job and do what it takes to not wash another dish again after that.
John Perry Barlow’s story of meeting a woman at a joint convention and having a connection with her like he had never had before, was pretty interesting. The music had a sense of mystery to it and so did the story. He met this woman and they both had a connection that neither could deny. They knew they were meant to be together but she had died just short of her 3oth birthday. This story makes me think more about the people in my life and the connections that I have had. It makes me think of how short life is and can be. The story in some ways gives me a drive to do the things I want to do in life and be with the people that matter most because you never know when your last breath will be.
