    On Douglas Engelbart, and "Naturalness"

So this guy, Douglas Engelbart. Apparently he invented a bunch of stuff that we use in tandem with the computer and Internet today, from the computer mouse (personally I rarely use a mouse these days, opting instead for touchpads and pen tablets but..)...

    The Voder

    by
So just read through one of the links on the class blog, about this early (1939) voice synthesizer called The Voder, which reminds me of Darth Vader but that's a different story. So anyway it's a really interesting approach to simulate English speech, e...

    As I May Think

    by
So about this guy, Vannevar Bush. After reading his As We May Think I still think that his ideas of the Internet (or what eventually became what we call the Internet today) are remarkably accurate for his time (1945).On the other hand wh...

    History of the Internet

    by
Some words in orange color are the hyperlinks.

    Mail
The first time I used the Internet was like 12 or 13 years ago.
I made my first email address from Hotmail which I no longer use.
According to an article "The History of The Internet" written by Cameron Chapman, "Email was first developed in 1971 by Ray Tomlinson, who also made the decision to use the "@" symbol to separate the user name from the computer name (which later on became the domain name)."
So, email is about 16 years older than me.

Now Gmail seems to be very popular for me, and I love it.
A lot of Universities and colleges, companies and some other organizations use gmail which has their original domains after@.
TUJ address is exactly one of them because it's basically gmail but has original domain which is "@temple.edu".

One of the reasons I love gmail is I can use gmail with some mail application such as "Mail"of Mac computer and iPhone.
I have a Macbook and iPhone, and I normally use gmail from the Mail application so that I don't need to open the web browser and type my account name and password all the time.
You can use either IMAP and POP with gmail.
I prefer IMAP because if you read a new message from one of  such devises, the message is no longer "new message" in any devises.
However, if it's POP the message is still "new" even you already read it from other devise and the Mail application keeps telling you that you have "new message"which is very annoying for me.

    Emoticons
I don't remember when the first time I used emoticons, but at least I already used it when I was 15 years old.
According to the same article, "While many people credit Kevin MacKenzie with the invention of the emoticon in 1979, it was Scott Fahlman in 1982 who proposed using :-) after a joke, rather than the original -) proposed by MacKenzie. The modern emoticon was born."
I see some differences between Western and Japanese emoticons.
Western ones are like :) and XD.
Japanese ones are like (´・ω・`) and (*`ω´)
    And in Japan, we have
this kind of emoticons that is  called "Asky Art" or just "AA" in Japanese.
And some of Japanese emotions have names.
For example, my favorite one (´・ω・`) is called "shobon", ショボーン or ショボン in Japanese.
It shows some feeling such as sadness, depression and disappointment.

Here, I introduce some popular AA characters which have names.

内藤ホライゾン or ブーン ( ^ω^) Naito Horizon or Boon

    ドクオ ('A`) Dokuo

Shakin
           _

Sugiura Romanesuku

Anija( older brother)

    弟者 (´<_` ) Otoja(younger brother)

Morarah

Giko-cat

Fusa-giko

Shi

Tsu

Saito Matanki

Those characters are often used when some people write their own novels which called Boon Novels(ブーン系小説).

Now you can see some products of those emoticons.
I do own one of the most popular products, shobon cushion.
You can also see those cushions in my dailyshoot assignment pictures.
