Education and Beyond!

Something that caught my attention this week was the events that were happening in Ohio. A 17 year old student opened fire at a high school in Ohio, leaving three dead. These events are nothing new they have happened before, some specific ones are the shooting at Virginia Tech and Columbine High School. These topic is very serious to me because, I’ve been in school during bomb threats and was on lockdown during the shooting at University of Alabama- Huntsville. I think that if schools provide more education on violence that may help. Parents should be more involved in their children’s life so that they may know when something is wrong. Children that have psychological problems need help and more counseling.

During my grade school years there wasn’t a big focus on violence. Sometimes these problems stem from children who are being bullied by their peers. Teachers and staff don’t seem to pay enough attention when they see children being bullied. When bullying is being done I think that there should be better procedures in solving these problems, even if the students are put in suspension/in- school suspension they come back to the classroom and do the same thing. Schools should have programs and assemblies bringing people in such as, parents who have had children to kill themselves due to bullying.

Some behaviors start at home. I was watching Dr. Drew last night and he was explaining that our society can be due to problems such as, children who are raised in single parent homes or children who see violence in the home. In my opinion, thats not always the case some children are raised in stable homes parents are just not aware of they’re children’s actions.

In some cases insanity can be the cause of problems. All throughout elementary the counselors were great with they’re jobs but, in high school all the counselors ever did was college prep activities. Counselors should also pay more attention to students because, students with psychological problems can be a danger to they’re peers. It may not seem fair but, with all the violence problems it may be a good idea to have students evaluated. If a child has enough attention sometimes problems can be identified through their actions.
