When I first saw the title of this article, “The process of collaboration,” I got nervous because for some reason ‘collaboration’ is one of the many words that I just can never spell correctly. Haha, but no I honestly had an idea of what it would be about, and it wasn’t too far off from what i thought.
Reading something like collaborating online after being a part of an online community like DS106 (shout out) and classroom NING’s really enables you to place yourself in the text. I’ve seen many of the steps that the article talks about first hand. It brings up the major points of, “Setting the stage, Modeling the process, Guiding the process, and Evaluating the process,” which i see constantly in our ENG307 community.
Our Ning is really a great example of this. All the students talking about, possibly even debating over the same topics, and our professor then putting in her sense of what she sees or “Guiding” is to me, what I envisioned while reading this article.
I really liked the opening part of ‘setting the stage’ for the students. It even said that research has shown that students who feel more prepared for things ultimately achieve more. The process of explaining the assignments and the importance of why we’re doing the assignments is huge, along with getting comfortable with the others you’ll be working with as well.
I thought this was an insightfull article, and really believe that DS106 and our Eng307 class exemplify and do these themes justice.
Cheers.
