The time has come. My rap has been finished. Before I talk about it, I’ll let you listen to it.
Now let me explain the DS106 rap. I love to rap even though I may not be the best at it. I am inspired by Eminem, the greatest rapper alive. When Jim Groom said the final project was whatever you wanted it to be I had no doubt in my mind that I was going to make a song about DS106. It was easy to write about because the class is very interesting and it’s all about what you make it.
As far as making the rap, I used garage band. I used a groovy electric bass as the meat of the beat( see I rhyme all the time), and a club dance beat for the drum kit sound. I really liked the groovy, funky beat that the two sounds made. It was perfect for the sound I was trying to get. For the chorus, I dropped the club dance beat and just added a simple shaker to go with the groovy electric bass. This makes the sound softer but it still has some rhythm to it. It was very simple and those were the only three loops I used.
My favorite part about making this was writing the lyrics. Like I said before, I love to make raps so I tried to go all out on this. I tried to include what students did in the class, who the teacher was (is there brown on my schnauzer?), and why everyone should take it. I talked about blogging, garageband and audacity, tutorials, etc. I tried to cover it all in the song. Since I’m not a really a serious rapper, I tried to add some humor to it. The humor combined with the funky beat ended up sounding perfect.
The best part about this project was honestly that it reminded me how much I do love rapping. I know I’m not the best but I used to rap and make songs all of the time. Since I made this song I have started rapping again and attempting to scribble lyrics here and there. This song was a rebirth for the rapper in me! I’m so glad I got to do this. I am always striving to be like Eminem.
Hopefully this is a stepping stone to my fame! Be on the lookout for when I’m famous!
I’m not afraid,
PT
