1, Gardner Campbell Personal Cyberinfrastructure

Discuss your thoughts and feelings about being a university student in the digital age. What do you hope to gain from your university experience? Do Campbell’s ideas about personal cyberinfrastructure resonate with you? Explain why or why not.

In my opinion, I cannot say his ideas resonate with me or not because I agree with his ideas about both of good positive points and negative points.

According to his article, he states “faculty could bring students into these environments without fear that they would be embarrassed by their lack of skill or challenged by students’ unfamiliar innovations.” (3 paragraph)

The internet expanded in many countries when I was born. I learned how to use the power point and to search what you want to know on the internet when I was high school student. Actually, I was not interested in the internet at all because I thought using computers are difficult for me. However, when I entered TUJ, I got confused because everyone can use the internet effectively. So, I thought I should have used the internet a lot until now……That is why I agree with Gardner Campbell’s saying.

In addition, nowadays almost of university students have their university account due to registration, looking course schedule, current grade, blackboard, and so on. (I’m not sure Japanese university.) Also, many universities give students the course which is on-line class. Students do not have to go to university when they take the class. It makes them effectively.

However, Clay Shirky who writes “Newspapers and Thinking the Unthinkable” state that “Higher Education, which should be in the business of thinking the unthinkable, stood in line and brought its own version of the digital facelift.” (4 paragraph) Also, Gardner Campbell states that “The “process” that higher education achieved with massive turnkey online systems, especially with the LMS, actually moved in the opposite direction.” (5 paragraph) People use a lot of site such as Google, Blogger, Wikipedia, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter when the web changed. That means a lot because people can search everything, chat with everybody, use any articles.

The phrase “digital facelift” Clay Shirky says, I can agree with his idea. This phrase means that when people read article, they copy the sentence and upload on somewhere. This is like people doing the same ideas with the writer. Yet, I can disagree with his idea as well. This is because when I do my assignment, I sometimes got confused about what writer says. Then I sometimes search such as Wikipedia so I thought is it bad? when I read Gardner Campbell’s article. I am not good at using computers at all. When I use the internet due to assignment, I work as hard as possible. I hope to gain my skill of the internet to build. I cannot say that I agree with Gardner Campbell saying……
