Layering Sounds in Audacity

In this short tutorial we cover some of the techniques you can use to stack or layer sounds, and control their volume with the envelope tool. An audio file that has overlapping sounds, background, foreground, effects, sounds much more natural

This allows you to do things like put subtle sound effects beneath a narration, or fade in and out music in the background as a voice narrates over.

I assume you don’t hear the playback because you have headphone in?

I’m not sure what you are asking. Are you saying you do not hear your sounds when you play back? When you record does it make wave forms? If the line is flat than it may not have recorded correctly. Please provide more info.

This has been updated with a newer version that has all the audio. It only took me 2 years to get around to doing this.
