This assignment will last for two weeks from Monday January 31 until Sunday February 14th.
For this assignment you will need to follow the daily assignments on the Daily Shoot site. What this site does—on a daily basis—is provide you a frame for taking a picture on any given day. Like, for example, the following:
2010/09/13 • #ds302 (115 photos)
Make a photograph of a path, sidewalk, trail, or road today and post it. Lead our eye through the scene.
Based on the prompt for that day, you are to take a picture.
Next step is to get a Flickr account and then upload each day’s image to Flickr with the following three tags:
- The course tag ds106
- The daily shoot tag (it changes daily) ds456, ds457, etc.
- Your Course section Number
- Open course: section0
- Martha Burtis’ course: section1
- Jim Groom’s face-to-face course: section3
- Jim Groom’s online course: section4
Also, you may want to set your account up to blog to twitter from Flickr- makes shorter URLs http://bit.ly/ifdCWf (thanks to @cogdog for this useful tip).
To complete the daily shoot on any given day, you will need to tweet the image to @dailyshoot with a link to the image on Flickr as well as the proper hashtag for that day’s daily shoot (i.e., #ds456 or #ds457 etc.—note ds in the hashtag is for DailyShoot not Digital Storytelling).
Additionally, play around with some Flickr plugins for your WordPress blog to see how you might pull in your images on the sidebar, in a gallery page, etc. Share out what you find.
Also, on Tuesday at 6:00 PM (EST) we will be joined by D’Arcy Norman via Skype (and he will be broadcasting live on #ds106radio) who will be riffing with us about photography. I once again gave him—like all the other speakers—no script because I think that is important they talk to their ideas and passions. Take a lot through some of D’Arcy’s amazing photography here and here.
If any of these instructions are at all unclear, please use the comments below to let me know so I can clarify.

Hey, for those of us who can’t listen live, are the talks archived somewhere that I haven’t found yet?
Reverend
We are working on a more robust space for ds106 radio shows, I’ll let you know as soon as that is up.
D'Arcy Norman
The links I talked about (and more we didn’t get to) are all on a web page for use by anyone.
Reverend
Thanks for coming in and talking with fol;ks, you have already sparked some interesting discussion in the blogs:

Are you using Flickr Tag for that sidebar, and if so, how are you constructing the call? It seems to want to allow you search for tags + users, but not tags + groups, so I can’t seem to get it to search for ds106 tags in the Daily Shoot group.
