Four Icon Challenge.

An assignment this week is to do one of the student proposed assignments on the DS106 website.

I choose the Four Icon Challenge proposed by Tim Owens. The concept behind the assignment is to “Reduce a movie, story, or event into it’s basic elements, then take those visuals and reduce them further to simple icons.”

The movie I choose for this assignment is The Boondock Saints. The movie is a story of two brothers, Connor and Murphy, who accidentally kill some Russian mobsters and decide to take the law into their own hands. The Irish brothers start a mission to gun down all the evil and corrupt in Boston. It’s really an awesome movie that didn’t get much press when it first came out because of its violence and its release date was shortly after the disaster at Columbine. I would highly recommend anyone to see this movie if you haven’t.

I choose the cross because of the huge influence Catholicism has for the twins. I choose the cop car because in the end it is FBI Detective Paul Smecker who helps the brothers with their goal when he is convinced that what they’re doing is good. I choose the gun because the brothers use silenced weapons to kill their victims. I choose the stack of coins because the brothers put pennies on the eyes of the dead for them to pay the toll to get them to the gates of Judgement.
