Eraserhead GIFs

I’ve made some more animated GIFs from David Lynch’s “Eraserhead.” Originally, I wanted to try to capture the “plot” of the movie, but since the plot is fairly non-linear, and there are some key images I frankly don’t want to put on this blog, I settled for a few that were more conducive to GIFs. Most of them ended up being closer to the beginning of the movie, which I’m fine with, because I think the dinner scene is one of the best in the movie.

I made all of the GIFs using basically the same process as in the first one. I took screenshots of each frame of the scene I wanted and loaded them into a program called GIFfun that I downloaded. Then I reversed the order of the frames and copied them to the end of the first sequence so that the looping was less choppy. I like some of these more than others, but it was good practice.

This was my first GIF for this movie. I like how each character is fidgeting slightly. My only problem with it is that Henry opens his mouth, so it looks like he’s talking, but I really like how Mary (the girl) turned out.

I’m not crazy about how the looping turned out here, it jumps a little at the end. I still felt that it was a good scene to throw in.

This is my favorite part of the whole dinner scene. The contrast between the sobbing daughter and her father is just horrifying. This one was just begging to be GIF’d.

I hope that the movement in this isn’t too subtle – it was barely discernible when the movie was full screen.

This is the lady in the radiator, right after she sings “In Heaven.” I really wanted to capture her shifting around on the stage, but that was hard to loop smoothly, so I went with this subtler scene. This is probably my least favorite, because it doesn’t really capture the essence of the scene, but I wanted to give props to the song.

This is another clip that was just asking to be made into a GIF. This was the easiest – I didn’t even have to reverse the sequence at the end.
