Adding that Bass

(written 3/29)

This week (last week) I started adding more layers to the track. While things were coming together on my side of the project, if you were listening to the track you probably noticed that so far there were some sparse moments. But this is all part of the building process. So since the bass was to play on the whole track, I decided that laying that down should be a priority. So I played around with some different options and then picked one that I wanted to use.

Then, in continuing to flesh out the character of the track, I decided that to add that second guitar that was in the original conceptual demo (in the first week posting of this project). This guitar an electric one (unlike the demo where it was acoustic) and is placed in the intro/outro and after the choruses. Check out the track with my comment on soundcloud below:

Beyond what was recorded this week, I started running through ideas for the remaining layers of the track. I think there’s gonna be one more guitar to emphasize the choruses, an electric lead guitar for the breakdown, the main vocals, harmony vocals and some ambient vocals.

For information about the fairly simple process that I am using to record, refer to last week’s post on the final project where I talk about the program I’m using and some methods. Also, more information about the plugins and production I am doing from week to week will be given in detail in the post for the week of April 21st.

And here’s a picture of what the track looks like as of now:

And much like I said last week with the drums, the bass part of the EQ isnt too audible on laptop speakers. This is the case with the bass guitar too. So to be make sure you can hear it, use headphones or good speakers.
