Wedding Cakes

Okay, so my last post about wedding planning really got me excited for picking out wedding cake designs. So I couldn’t wait any longer and I have to use that as the topic for my post this week. It seems like there are so many things I’m unsure of about the cake. The only thing I do know is that I want it, in some form, to match the red, black, and white theme of the wedding. Other than that, I have no idea what I want. How many layers should it be? I guess that depends on how many guests you have and how much leftover cake you want to deal with. What shape should it be? Round or square? Should the layers be even or should I go for that more modern lopsided looking cake? What flavor should it be? Wouldn’t it be cool to stick with the color theme and have a red velvet cake so all of the cake matched the wedding? What kind of topper, if any, should I get? What flavor icing? Do I want real icing or that fondant stuff? The questions go on and on.

But the first thing I would like to show you is something I find absolutely hilarious. This is a wedding topper I came across (I actually found it at walmart, and by the way, walmart is really upping their game on all the scrapbook/cake/wedding stuff). I’m not sure if the cake I’ll choose will allow me to have a topper at all because it could possibly have something else on the top, like flowers or something, that prevent me from having the topper. But if I can have a topper, I would love to get this one.

Like I said, I saw in walmart, but I can’t find it on walmart.com.

Now, let’s look at some cakes.

I absolutely love the simplicity of this cake. It makes it look very elegant. Found it here

Now, I don’t think I would actually choose this cake, but I still think it is an awesome idea. Found it here

And I’ve also been thinking about this whole thing where the cupcakes are actually the cake. Found it here

And I know this one isn’t a wedding cake, but this is the perfect example of the kind of lopsided cake I was talking about earlier. Found it here

I was originally thinking of a wedding cake kind of like this. Found it here

But the more I look, I’m kind of changing my mind and thinking more along the lines of something like this. Found it here

I know I’ve said it before, but I love simplicity. So I think that is what is changing my mind about the cake. I want something very pretty, but simple at the same time. It will be interesting to see what kind of cake I actually end up with. Let me know what you think of the cakes!
