Words of Wisdom

Future 106ers,
I am writing to offer some advice regarding Jim Groom’s DS106. It would be easy to say, ” You have to take this class, it was a blast!” In all honesty that is far from the truth. I will say, you ought to take this class, and that it can be a fun course, if you set out to do that.
This class is very time demanding, as Jim will tell you when you sign up for it. Believe him, IT IS. But here’s the thing, the while the assignments can be challenging, Jim ALWAYS allows for his students to make each and every assignment unique to themselves. Whether it’s the visual assignments, the design, or the audio, you will always have to the opportunity to put your own twist on the topic assigned.
I had a ton of fun with each assignment, and learned SOO much. I had never made a website, or a blog post for that matter, nor had I done any serious editing of audio, pictures, or video files. With the help of Jim tutorials, and the examples posted byu other students, I was able to figure out each of these and design some really cool stuff.
Throughout the course, I built a website documenting the process of restoring my car, a 1979 MG Midget. Using the tools I learned about in Jim’s class, I’ve posted pictures, videos, and even some sound tracts.
I would absolutely recommend that everyone take this course. It can be fun it you allow it to be, and you are guaranteed to gain a wealth of knowledge. Jim is easy to work with, always willing to answer questions, and give advice, and is simply Brilliant with anything online.
I wish you luck in your DS106 endeavor. Take the time to read through the tutorials, look over some examples, and give it a shot. It’s worth it, and when you get done, you could have your own personal website, and the feeling of accomplishment that come along with creating so cool stuff.
