the long over due gardner assignment

I know this assignment is from week 2, but better late then never. I felt Gardner Campbells’  presentation “No Digital Facelifts: Thinking the Unthinkable About Open Educational Experiences,”  was really interesting and informative. Also his article “A Personal Cyberinfrastructure,” both the presentation and the article I felt were an inspiration for ds106. In the presentation he discusses the “three recursive practices” and they are: narrating, curating, sharing. these three things we do in this class we narrate each others work, curating or create our work, and share our work to our classmates and to the world. Campbell feels that technology amplifies the learning process and that we are not taking advantage of this technology especially in educating. Also in the presentation he discusses :”Openness: the three levels” and they are: open to the world, open to each other, and open to ourselves. these three levels are all applied in this class, and campbell feels that an open community helps the learning process. that is why prof. micheal branson smith stresses the importance of commenting on each others work, the feedback is supposed help us make our work better. I also like his example of little big planet, and how we are not only the participants, but the producers as well because the game’s selling point is to create levels. he feels that this is how the school system should be, we should have the freedom to learn what we want, and what we create.

In his article he is trying to solve the problem many schools have, and that is how can teachers inspire students’ imginations. he feels like with his presentation that schools should use the tools of technology to allow students to explore, create, and craft their own desires. he feels that if schoools apply “cyberinfrastructure” in to schools, students will soar and will not just think of school as just dumb work that doesnt apply to the real world, but what students do now is the start of their professional lives.
