TDC 7: Everyday object as musical instrument.

This was boatloads of fun. I took an empty bottle (hence “Dead Soldiers”) and tried to make all the sounds I could with it, recording the noises with my laptop’s internal mic. I tinged a butter knife against the belly of the bottle; I tapped my finger against the bottom, creating a bongo-ish sound; I breathed across the top, making a hollow ghost-y wind-y noise; and, finally, singing into the bottle, creating an echo-y noise that sounds a little like an adhan? maybe?

Anyway, tons of fun. Took two drafts to get the song I wanted. Could have worked longer to match up the time signatures, but I kind of liked the off tempo foreignness of it all.

TDC8: A photo that represents a sound.

Cooked a bunch of bacon and arranged the pieces to spell the word SIZZLE. I like how the pieces look sort of stylized? Maybe a new font, hmmm?

TDC9: A close-up of a familiar object.

Two for today.

1. Rothko Lemon–This was accidental beauty. I just pushed the camera up to the nib at one end and took the photo, which reminded me of a Rothko painting, the strong, fuzzy color fields.

Then, I thought maybe it was time to go ahead and learn how to do actual close-ups. I looked it up (on my camera, one uses the Macro Digital setting, I found out) and took my second photo…

2. Basal Plate + Roots–The basal plate and roots are the parts of the onion found on the bottom; the basal plate is the flat-ish darki brown spot, and the roots and the little tendrils. The close-up looks vaguely entomological, to me.
