Objectives: In this lab, I made myself more comfortable with posting pages to the Internet and connecting with others using sites like wikispaces.com and diigo.com.

Equipment list: Computer with internet access, WinSCP file transfer software and Notepad++.

Notes and Observations: I made three very basic pages that I could use for my lab reports before I began using WinSCP to post them to the internet. That went very smooth until I went to view them on the web. The problem ended up being that I thought I had set my permissions correctly by using the stickybit option when I first set my permissions. Instead, the stickybit didn’t work and I had to manually change the permissions for the folder that holds the three html pages that I wrote at the beginning of the lab. After that the rest of the lab was smooth sailing. I created a wiki and a diigo account to be able to join in networking discussions as well. I’ve never used wiki or diigo but after looking around each site a little bit after making accounts there, they look really interesting.

Questions: I couldn’t figure out why my website refused to show after I had uploaded them to the network. Was it the wrong link? Did I type it wrong? Finally I was asked the right question. “Are your permissions set correctly?” After that it made complete sense why it wasn’t showing. I never gave it permission.
