Switched at Beach!

I just finished my second visual assignment. This was a photo of my Dad and my little brother, Jack, at the beach in 1994. Following the directions of the assignment, I switched their heads. I really like how it turned out, I rotated my brothers head to make it look like he was looking down at my little Dad.

Switched at Beach

And, incase you’d like to know how to do this simple switching technique, here’s a …

TUTORIAL:

1. Select a photo with two people whose heads are not touching in any way.

2. Open the photo into a photo-editing software. I used fotoflexer.

3. Begin by using the Copy Region tool to copy one head making sure to stay as close to the outline of the head without actually cropping off any of the head.

Tutorial Step 1

4. Repeat step 3 with the other head.

5. Once both heads are copied, right click the first image and select Cut Out Person/Object.

Tutorial Step 2

6. Follow the instructions in the window that pops up to cut the head out.

7. I was confused at first, but the basic idea is to color in the entire head region first (with the green brush), then click ”delete” and the red brush will appear. Use the red brush to fill in any area outside of the head that you would like to delete. Then press the button that says “Predict Unknown Areas” and if you have done everything correctly…just the head will appear!

Tutorial Step 3

8. Repeat steps 5-8 with the other head.

9. Once you have finished cutting out each head, place each head over the place of the other head in the original photograph. This may require some adjusting in size or rotating to make the heads look appropriate in their “new position.”

10. Once you have the heads in place, hold down CTRL and click on each head. Right click and press “Merge Selected Images”

Tutorial Step 4

11. Once merged, all you have to do is save and upload to Flickr!
