Black History Month – Wilt Chamberlain – BS

Wilton Norman Chamberlain aka Wilt Chamberlain was an NBA legend. Wilt played for a few different teams in the NBA, but is probably known most for playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. At 7 foot 1 and 300 pounds, Chamberlain is considered by many to be one of the greatest and most dominant players, at the center position, in the history of the NBA.

Although Wilt was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he still has a tie with Kansas. Chamberlain joined Kansas University in 1955 and played for their freshman team. He was highly anticipated with his height and light frame. When Chamberlain eventually debuted as a varsity player, he broke two all time Kansas records by scoring 52 points and grabbing 31 rebounds. Chamberlain only played for Kansas for two seasons though. While at Kansas, Chamberlain made first team All American both seasons and helped lead Kansas to a Big Seven Championship.

Wilt is a player I have enjoyed watching highlights of for quite some time now, since I’m a basketball fan. I had no idea he had any ties with Kansas though since I don’t follow college basketball. Wilt was a legend and a dominating force down low. With the numbers he put up consistently, I don’t think anyone will be able to forget him.
