Our group was assigned Mr. Trololo and there are really no words to describe this video, which is probably the reason its so popular. Going off the discussion of viral videos, my view is that their success is derived from their obscurity. All the videos on the top ten were totally off the wall and ridiculous which is what makes YouTube so great. Videos like this would have no success or place on a prime time network but have found a niche on the internet. This might attribute to why YouTube is so highly watched being that its content is unlike anything that been seen before. It is because these videos are so real and unintentionally funny which makes them a hit with viewers. YouTube has opened a totally new market for viewers to access specific content immediately thus altering how we perceive entertainment. Instead of media being fed to us on the programmers schedule, the viewer is now in control. As part of this splitting from the traditional method of media consumption so to goes the material we wish to view. So when a video of a 1970s Russian man singing a bunch a nonsense comes around not only is it hilarious but it is not funny in the same way a sitcom is. Also, these clips are no longer than 5 minutes and in an age where attention spans have disintegrated this adds fuel to the fire.
