What is storytelling?

The first thing I did this week was sat down and thought about storytelling. I thought about what storytelling  really meant to me and what I associated it with. Thinking about traditional storytelling really brought back childhood memories for me. I put all my thoughts in a post entitled “Reminiscing in a Digital Age.” I don’t think my views on this topic have changed much this week. I still think digital story telling is awesome and modern, but I also still really like the idea of traditional story telling.

I did have a lot of fun creating my Five Card Flickr story. I really enjoy the processes and technology behind digital story telling and I am excited to see what else ds106 can teach me about it!

Kurt Vonnegut’s Shape of Stories:

Kurt Vonnegut’s shape of stories was very interesting to me. I have never thought of stories in that way, but I really like how he analyzes them. I decided to create the shape of  What Happens in Vegas because the main characters in this movie have lots of ups and downs. Check out my full “The ups and downs of VEGAS” post!

My Daily Creates AKA My Fun Little Study Breaks!

This week’s fun mashed up title is “I will not MISS this MYSTERIOUS man BLOWING LEAVES on the SIDEWALK

This week I completed 4 daily creates!

Monday’s daily create assignment was to take a photo of anger or something that makes you angry. This daily create had PERFECT timing! When I went to see what the daily create assignment was I was extremely annoyed at this man blowing leaves right out side my window. I felt like he was out there for hours and when I went to snap a picture of him, I saw no leaves that he could be blowing and he looked like he was day dreaming! This made made me very angry! GO BLOW SOMEONE ELSE’S LEAFLESS SIDEWALK.

GO BLOW SOMEONE ELSES LEAVES!

Wednesday’s daily create assignment was to photograph a sidewalk scene. I LOVED this daily create because my roommate and I are pro people watchers and due to the sidewalk view we have from our window, we have easy access to people to creep on. The key is to not get caught in the act! I AM SORRY I JUST CAN’T HELP BUT WATCH.

Thursday’s daily create assignment was draw something that you miss. I drew a picture of my family ( cliche, I know). My family is extremely important to me, and although it is nice to be away at school, I do miss them. We always have fun together and we have some awesome memories! I’M SORRY I’M NOT MORE ARTISTIC (That is a DOG not a CAT, if you were wondering)

And finally, Friday’s daily create assignment was to take a photo close up of something with a unique texture so others can guess what it is. This is a picture of something I wear pretty often! CAN YOU GUESS WHAT IT IS?

Guess what this is!!

Okay, since this is my weekly summary I will tell you. IT WAS MY SHOES!

it was shoes!

5 Card Flickr Story: The One That Got Away!

The assignment was to create a story using 5 photos randomly selected for you by flickr. I was kind of afraid of doing this at first, in my head it was going to be very difficult. BUT IT WASN’T! It was awesome! I loved trying to be creative and making the 5 random pictures fit together in a story. It was a lot of fun. Check out my story. You can play Five Card flickr too! (Just follow the link!)   :)

Participation:

I honestly did not keep track of how many comments I posted on others’ blogs, I am pretty sure it was a good amount though. I really loved seeing everyone elses’ work! I loved all the creativity I saw and reading others’ thoughts. It was really interesting seeing how others completed and interpreted assignments. With all the commenting back and forth I am really starting to feel like it is a community.

I really loved Linda’s work! I fount it through the Inspire page. I tweeted out my post blogging about her work so others could enjoy it as much as I did. I didn’t quite get 5 comments, but I did get a few. I actually got some on each of my posts I believe.  It felt awesome getting comments and finding out what others thought of my work. Kind of like a boost of self esteem! It was also fun replying to others’ comments. I am going to try harder next week to advertise my work and hopefully increase the comments I receive!

My experience thus far…

So far I really love ds106. I think I love it more and more each day. It isn’t stressful like most of my other classes, I actually think it helps me to relax. (When taking 18 credits, I need all the help relaxing as I can get!) I think I am really feeling more comfortable with my blog, its beginning to feel like home. And I LOVE my theme now!

I also love how the communication between the students boosted! The comments just seemed to be pouring out of people, it was fantastic!

I think I probably need to work on my writing skills some, I feel like some of what I write is such a snooze. Hopefully that will get better soon! I’m trying :)
