Weekly Summary#5

First, here is my blog post on the photoblitzing assignment. It was a doozy, and I was trying to look as nonchalant as possible as I was trying to get the perfect angle on the lamp post.

Here is my “Best of” slideshow and the description of the photos therein. I’ve seen these throughout the web and its nice to make one me’self.

TDC#263: “Draw an abstract picture of your favorite animal.”

Abstract Cow

The noble cow. Revered in some nations and cultures. I admire it for its versatility in food production. Milk, Butter, Cheese, Beef, etc. So delicious. I tried to build one in MSpaint with all right-angles and an abstract feel.

TDC#265:”Record one sound being interrupted by a totally different, non-related sound.”

I’ve always been fond of trains and although I’ve never had one, my travels through the internet have given my a great affinity for cats. One could even interpret this as a cat stopping the train with the power of its meow. Both sounds were pulled into Audacity for editing from freesound.org. I originally was going to have my snoring interrupted by an alarm clock but those sounds aren’t really “non-related” and my fake snores sounded unconvincing.

TDC#266: “A famous artist said, ‘You can never have too much yellow.’Make a drawing that proves this.”

Yellow

I interpreted “drawing” pretty broadly. Here is me and my surroundings, made yellow. I really like the posterization tool in GIMP, it gives the photo a really cool feel. I am not the best with hand-drawn things, so I tend to gravitate towards technology-based idea’s and manipulations.

Now for the Visual Assignments. We were supposed to do 10 stars worth as a minimum, I went with twelve because I felt the Yam might not get too many accolades, so I wanted to hedge my bet.

I did the following:

Splash The Color (2/5 stars)

Pretzel Time

An Album Cover (2/5 stars)

Some Sort of Musical Fusion

Pick A Bad Photo, Apply A Vintage Effect And Write Something In Helvetica (2/5 stars)

Theodore Roosevelt and the Dakota Wilderness

Troll Quotes (2/5 stars)

Microappoogle

Yam Yarn (2/5 stars)

Godzilla versus Yam

Switch up the Mood (2/5 stars)

An Attempt to Darken the Mood

I really think I’ve grown in my capabilities this week, I have had very limited involvement with GIMP or any photo-editing software up until this point and I’m really enjoying getting my feet wet and learning so useful skills. I have also started paying attention to whats around me more, looking for interesting photo opportunities and thinking more about how I want to final product to look before I take the picture.

Here is Kelsey’s summary of our group activity so far, she sums it up pretty well. I think we’re definitely settled on the road theme, now its just a decision between radio drama and soundscape or a combination of the two (if that’s possible?). I will also reiterate her shoutout to Maxwell, scrolled through all the blogs and didn’t see a username that looked like it fit him.
