Unit 10: Making Movies

Not technically a course this is another experiment in offering a full ds106 experience to open participants based on previous syllabi taught at the University of Mary Washington (UMW). The first was August-December 2013 as a “Headless ds106”. This Open ds106 is a re-organization of that experience, but without references to date or time- this could be something individuals or groups could do at any time, at any pace. You’ve read movies and done some pre-work (Right? Bueller? Bueller?). Now it’s time to your own movies! Video is perhaps the most rich of storytelling forms, and in this unit you will focus explicitly on video storytelling. The only things on your ds106 plate are to practice your storytelling via video assignments.

Inspiration

Who can inspire more (someone will tell us) for telling stories in film than the great Hitchcock? The Ultimate Hitch Cookbook is a student project from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hannover. It is an animated recipe book of for Alfred Hitchcock’s classics.

We have a double dose of inspiration!

This video was made by Rachel a 2012 UMW Student. It is one of many works featured in the ds106 inSPIRE site, something she and a co-student also designed as a ds106 project. It is a place to recognize the other work of people in ds106. It is worth looking at to see other ds106 video projects. Maybe you might be inspired to show us what inspired you.
