Video Essay: The Fellowship of the Rings

For my video essay, I did a character analysis of Gandalf the Grey, one of the main characters in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I focused only on the first episode in the trilogy, The Fellowship of the Ring. The essay pretty much speaks for itself, so here it is:

I used iMovie and ripped clips from the Fellowship DVD to make this. I actually found iMovie really straight forward – I didn’t have a lot of difficulty figuring out how to manipulate clips and audio. My biggest issue was how much space the DVD files ended up taking up. The clips from the first DVD alone (of two parts) filled my computer to maximum capacity, and I ended up having to buy an external hard drive to finish the project. Ripping and converting all the files was definitely the most time-consuming part, but once that was done, I had a lot of fun making the actual essay. I know my thesis is a little juvenile, but I feel like this is a movie everyone’s seen enough that it’s all right to have some fun with it, instead of doing a serious analysis. If you haven’t seen the movie, I’m sorry, the video probably doesn’t make much sense, but I feel like pretty much everyone has. Hope you enjoy.
